We have heard all sorts of stories through the years of the benefits in framing with steel compared to wood studs. Once I even read you could construct a whole house with the amount of reused metal from a large vehicle such as a Cadillac. I find this hard to believe unless you happen to be building a really small home.

My personal favorite for framing with steel studs is they are incredibly straight. I have built non bearing partition walls using 12 ft . 3 1/2 in . wide steel studs and following the drywall it is possible to put an eight ft . level to measure it for straightness on the walls with awesome results.

If you use 3 1/2 in . wide steel studs along with 5/8 inch drywall you’re going to get an incredibly sturdy and durable wall. Framing with steel studs is normal in office renovations or remodeling. Most of the steel stud framing is performed via the drywall contractors.

Metal studs and termites don’t mix. You’ll never have to worry about these kinds of little buggers or other un-invited house insects damaging your walls.

Over time I have heard reports that steel framed buildings are earthquake and fire proof. They could be much more immune to fire than wood however remember when metal is hot enough it’ll bend and twist which makes it useless.

Whenever I hear folks talking about a fire resistant building constructed with steel framing components my very first thought is all of the many other materials used in building the house that aren’t fire proof. Do not get a false illusion when purchasing a building framed with metal studs and think it is 100% fire proof.

As far as steel framed houses being earth-quake proof that is another story. I really cannot comment too much on earthquake damage to a steel building. The problem with earthquakes is they apparently create fires. So even if your building can survive an earth quake it could get damaged by a fire in the area.

I’ve framed more wood homes than steel homes over the years and my steel stud construction is restricted to nonbearing partition walls generally found in office buildings. I really like framing with metal due to the lightweight as well as ease of construction.

I still enjoy framing with solid wood. There is something about what framing which i have always loved and continually will.

Don’t be left in the cold this winter. Make sure that your boiler is working and running efficiently now. New Building Regulations and a Code for Sustainable Homes has meant that many of the large range of boilers available are unsuitable for homes in Britain. All boilers are now required to be either Condensing boilers or high efficiency boilers.

Condensing boilers are designed to recover more heat from the gas energy that is input into the heating system. The heat is recovered from the flue gases which are cooled into vapours. These boilers work at their highest efficiency at a low temperature, so they can feature fully modulating operation at all times, ensuring the output matches very closely to the heat demand.

Your home will more than probably feature a Combination, or “Combi” boiler. They are the most commonly used boilers in the UK as they have a number of advantages. Hybrid versions of the boiler care currently being developed which will have water storage within the casing of the boiler. Though traditional Combi boilers have no heat storage facility they are great for their space saving abilities as they are so compact. To ensure that your boiler is efficient you should choose one with a SEDBUK A or B rating.

System boilers have all the benefits of combis but tend to provide a higher output capacity which is used predominantly for central heating. Open vent boilers can save large amounts of space as they are usually located in the loft, and work by pressurising a high level cold water tank.

You could also benefit the environment by updating your boiler to a solar powered/gas hybrid, which only relies on gas when solar panels cannot generate enough energy.

The Construction Centre can put you in contact with the UKs largest number ofHeating and Plumbing suppliers. So if you are looking for example, supplers of Electric Fires, then the Construction Centre should be top of your list.

Entrusting the renovation of your house to someone else is a tough decision. Thus the need to look for and choose the best contractor to do the task becomes critical. There are many building contractors so making the right decisions will stop you experiencing another home upgrade horror story. Here are some top tips to support you make the best decision as quickly as possible.

It is recommended to take your time for choosing a contractor, as hurrying into the task without taking enough time to think about your preferences could easily mean lamenting your decision in future. Prior to the appointment of a contractor, follow the suggestions given below to ensure that you do not end up taking any wrong decision.

You must begin the search by talking about it with your family and other close acquaintances. Ask for referrals and figure out if the jobs done by those contractors are of the same nature as the project you have in consideration. You can search for a contractor by referring to the Yellow Pages or use a good search engine on the internet and type in ‘Renovations Singapore’. However, when using public sources, you should never believe the claims blindly.

As a next move, tell the contractor about your vision for your residence. You must discuss all your needs at this stage to ensure smooth work without any hitches. Figure out how much at ease you are with the contractor and if he is dedicated and fast to respond to your needs. Go with your intuition if you are not very satisfied with his approach to deadlines or towards your imaginative inputs for the project.

Go ahead and visit the homes he has renovated in past and talk to the people he has worked for to obtain a better picture of his abilities. His work must demonstrate the kind of talent and experience you want, on the basis of which you can put your money and your home in his hands.

After you have found someone who perfectly fits your requirements, the next step is to negotiate an appropriate price, for which you must have some knowledge of the current market prices. Once this aspect is successfully dealt with, you can look forward to an excellent home renovation project.

Discover more about interior design and uncover how does property renovations Singapore increase the net worth of your property rapidly.

Need to dehumidify and extract heat from your home? The solution is to invest in an air conditioning system or full HVAC system. Air-con provides comfort in both hot and cold weather by regulating internal temperatures.

A 240 volt electric supply is needed to power the fan units in each room and an external compressor. Mounted wall units will be discreetly fitted in each room. These will be connected with a series of thin copper pipes to a small external compressor unit to allow the flow and return of refrigerant gas.

The residents of the house will then be able to control temperature and humidity by using a remote control.

The advent of these internal wall mounted units called inverters has transformed the energy efficiency of air conditioning. They can control the capacity and fan speed of the system digitally by matching it precisely to the temperature required. This means that no additional or surplus heat is wasted.

Some air conditioning units on the continent and in holiday destinations give the systems a bad name, as they are often extremely noisy and ineffective. But this shouldn’t prevent you from considering an air-con system for your home. Modern systems are so quiet if sited in the right place that they will not disturb your home or the residential area that you live in.

Air conditioning systems have the ability to effectively be ‘run in reverse’, thereby also acting as a heat pump. This is an extremely efficient use of electricity in providing domestic heating by provision of warm blow air. As a guideline the cost indication would be that a single wall inverter unit and compressor can be supplied and fitted at under 2000 +vat.

Domestic Air Conditioning Air conditioning is the removal of heat from indoor air for the thermal comfort of inhabitants. Air Conditioning can be used for many types of transportation, including cars, trains, ships, aeroplanes, and other vehicles.

Commercial air conditioning comes in both centrally driven systems and local systems. Traditionally offices tended to have a central cooling and heating fan unit whereby the temperature controlled air is distributed throughout the building by a system of ceiling or floor ducts. A series of ventilation grills and baffles are balanced to ensue an even air distribution throughout the building.

This is possible because a heat pump simply moves heat from one place to another rather than converting it from a fuel, like in combustion heating systems such as a gas boiler. Although air-source heat pumps are an energy efficient option, they do not generally perform well over extended periods of sub-freezing temperatures or in colder climates. In regions with sub-freezing winter temperatures, it may not be cost effective to meet all your heating needs with a standard air-source heat pump, in this case a more complex or traditional method should be employed.

A slightly more complex solution would be to adopt a system with standard gas boiler heating as a backup. This method will help you to overcome are the issue if you are in a low temperature climate.

A heat pump’s refrigeration system consists of a compressor and two coils made of copper tubing. One end of the copper tubing is indoors and the other end is situated outside of the building. Usually the copper pipe is surrounded by aluminium fins to aid in the transfer of heat.

Ideally businesses should consider their cooling requirements during the colder months in order to avoid disappointment and uncomfortable working conditions, due to the volume of demand for air conditioning over the summer. Typically installation firms are quieter during the winter months and can complete projects in plenty of time before the hot weather begins.

Air conditioning in its simplest form is the cooling of indoor air for thermal comfort. Most people think that air conditioners lower the temperature in their homes by pumping cool air in. What’s really happening is the warm air from your house is being removed and cycled back in as cooler air. This cycle continues until your thermostat reaches the desired temperature.

In a broader sense, the term can refer to any form of cooling, heating, ventilation, or disinfection that modifies the condition of air. Air Conditioning systems are installed usually due to a requirement to create comfortable living or working conditions. The Air Conditioning industry has never been large in the UK in comparison with warmer countries elsewhere in the world. The onset of global warming however seems likely to completely transform the market for air conditioning in the UK.

However, modern technology allows many inverter units to be run off a single compressor and this is an alternative method of providing air conditioning to commercial premises. Technological advances allow long refrigerant pipe runs of up to 170m and the small diameter pipes which are now used result in less volume of refrigerant gas.

Similar techniques in medieval Persia involved the use of cisterns and wind towers to cool buildings during the summer season. The air conditioning we see today is based on these ancient principles, however advances in the use of chemistry during the 19th century led to the first large scale modern type of air conditioning unit being ‘invented’ and used in 1902.

If inverter units are used in commercial buildings, these are often ceiling cassettes which come in a variety of specifications (1, 2 and 4 way cassettes). Perimeter areas and corridor areas often use air conditioning console units.

Process applications aim to provide a suitable environment for a process being carried out, regardless of internal heat and humidity loads and external weather conditions. Although often in the comfort range, it is the needs of the process that determine conditions, not human preference.

Along with the associated benefits of air conditioning, there are also several disadvantages; one disadvantage is the environmental cost. The costs to the environment is due to the amount of electricity required to run an air conditioning unit when some people argue that the same cooling effect can be seen by simply opening up a window.

However measures are in place to oversee the development of greener air conditioners, where a difference of up to 200% can be seen when compared to traditional units.

Open vent boilers work in a traditional manner, whereby the heating circuit is pressurised using a high level cold water tank usually located in the loft. The open vented boilers, whilst being very traditional in the plumbing arrangement, are however usually wall-hung boilers which help to save large amounts of space.

Typically heat is recovered from the flue gases; the water vapour in the exhausts gases is cooled by the incoming air, thus causing the vapour to form into a liquid state, hence the term condensing. Condensing boilers tend to work at their highest efficiency at lower temperatures so boilers are often designed to feature fully modulating operation at low temperatures, ensuring the output matches very closely to the heat demand.

Most natural gas boilers are suitable for Propane LPG fuel options and require only a change of burner nozzle. Many boilers are now able to run in conjunction with solar panels where gas forms the secondary top up, heat source. Solar smart combi boilers are now being produced by many boiler manufacturers. Other new features available are economisers, or top box gas savers, where even more heat is recovered from flue gases by incorporation of a secondary heat exchanger.

In recent years hybrid versions of combination boilers have evolved whereby a small amount of water storage is provided within the casing of the boiler. These are known as storage combination boilers.

Typical output capacities of combination boilers are 24kw, 28kw and 35kw but this varies with each boiler manufacturer. The efficiency of the boiler is reflected by the SEDBUK rating and ideally one should be seeking a SEDBUK, A or B rated boiler.

System boilers have all the benefits of combis but tend to provide a higher output capacity. They work on a sealed system basis and are predominantly for central heating. If domestic water heating or commercial water heating is required then a storage cylinder is provided in the traditional way.

Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important and there is an associated increase in public awareness. There is generally less awareness of the contribution that good building design can make to reducing pollution and improving the environment.

The Guide provides information on compliance with and the necessary assessment criteria of all categories within the Code. Information regarding Code related products and professional services are provided for easy sourcing and to enable a route to compliance.

At the same time we need to build much more housing to accommodate an increasing population, and changing lifestyles. If all the necessary housing were to be built by 2050, experts predict that up to one-third of the total housing stock is still yet to be built.

The UK Government is committed to addressing both the causes and consequences of climate change and to that end is bringing forward proposals for a Climate Change Bill1. The Bill will introduce a clear, credible, long-term framework for the UK to achieve its goals of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and ensure steps are taken towards adapting to the impacts of climate change.

Building sustainable homes requires us to minimise all sorts of environmental impacts in addition to carbon dioxide emissions, such as water use, waste generated, and materials for building.

The Code for Sustainable Homes provides a comprehensive measure of the sustainability of new homes, ensuring that sustainable homes deliver real improvements in key areas such as carbon dioxide emissions and water use.

The issues can be assessed against a performance target and awarded one or more credits. Performance targets are more demanding than the minimum standard needed to satisfy Building Regulations or other legislation. They represent good or best practice, are technically feasible, and can be delivered by the building industry.

If you are looking for further news articles, information on the Sustainable Housing. or Sustainable Design.

Interior design is made useful when turning simple living or working environments into fashionable pieces of art in spaces around the world. This design is highly coveted by people all over the world to alter the way in which they work and live and enhance the beauty that surrounds them every day.

A living area or work space is transformed into a magnificent space by using this design. This is accomplished by using various tools that range from painting a certain space to adding certain furniture and artwork to altering the physical aspects of the space itself.

Designers of this area have learnt how to turn an ordinary space into something amazing and they do this matching certain pieces of furniture with each other and then working with factors such as lighting, artworks and the physical features of the room itself.

Whether you have a large, tiny or even unmanageable space, an interior designer is qualified to use what it there to make the change that you require. Sometimes, breaking down some walls or adding windows also become part of their job to change a space.

Colors are very important within this particular type of design and interior designers are trained to see which colors will suit others. Color can liven up a room and it can also make a room look smaller or bigger than it is in reality.

Interior design is all about altering the way we experience something. It is about making use of tools of the trade to conceal the negative aspects of a space and to increase its positive qualities in order to complete the look.

By using interior design you are not only able to add to the natural beauty of a space but you are also able to make living and working in that space a more practical task. Organization is key with interior designing and it turns your specific space into something much more practical to live in.

There are many well known designers that would cost a fortune to design your home and even though they are able to turn it into the house or working environment of your dreams, you might not always be able to afford their services.

There are many other options available when it comes to employing a first class, affordable team of designers. All that you must do to find your ideal choice is to research a few companies and examine their previous work done in their portfolios.

If you want to make your home more attractive and appealing, you should contact Gold Coast house painters for a price quote. Gold Coast house painting professionals ensure quality results for a price you should afford.
